I waited for water and none came but the rain
I folded up the broken leaves from the
Banana tree that lives beside the front gate
Made a boat and sailed upon the puddles
But I had nothing to drink
I waited for love and none touched but the skin
I covered the opening where my mouth once
Was remembering to breathe before I began
Invented new patchwork designs for sleeping beneath
But I had nothing for comfort
