When I thought I might lose you
A heatwave crossed my heart and
Left my neck blushing as
My eyes bled to cool the rashéd skin
You gave me an alternative to the darkness
How easy it was to forgive every human
Failing except yours and in the aftermath
Of all that I feared I found
Your mask upon the counterpane
You were reluctant to wear it in bed

It feels comfortable in your hands
As I do in the texture of such fantasy
Carrying me your head bowed
My legs were not strong enough
Through the archway with flowers
When I noticed your pain
I understood your love and the gravitas
Of every scientific invention and patent
And of everything that cannot be helped.
You are where I choose to rest and who to bed.

Beyond the shadows of doubt,
nestled in deep,
lies the fantasy of a miracle,
happening upon
the midnight stroller
