lovesong for lisa

The hibiscus bush outside my front door
Only flowers on occasion
I’ve looked and asked
But still i can’t see

You see
During the night
Some months ago
In full view of all but me
Under that pacific moon
To the sounds of that laplap ocean
A group of onlookers
Cut into this ant hotel

And I’ve since watered it
And tended it without imposition
And celebrating the feral
Left it alone.

I’m wondering whether
These green fingers
Have seen their best days

I have loved the back of these hands
Since i first saw them in your garden
But this hibiscus
It only flowers on occasion
Despite the constant sun.
