Between The Lines: an interactive installation/ performance by Maflohé Passedouet with the INREV laboratory at the University Paris 8 and programmer, developer, researcher and teacher, Cédric Plessiet.
Imagine that you the spectator are kidnapped by a fortune-teller with a veiled face. Taken to a dark alcove, before you appears the mobile and silent face of a gypsy. Her visage is layered, a virtual double, an avatar in 3D. The lines on your hand are examined closely by a small camera above your right hand, manipulated by the performer. Once your lines have been read, the virtual double comes to life and announces her prediction via a genuine Romany gypsy tarot.
From ancestral and generational traditions, Maflohé Passedouet gives us divinatory second reading of hand lines combined with real-time, interactive technology. A hand placed in the center of the installation expresses man’s implicit presence. The touch, a grip, construction, direction. The hand and the brain as one. The technical performance’s foundation in programming allows the recognition of language and the reading of real-time sound. The gypsy can caress as well as kill, becoming a representative privileged by nascent thought.
